Speaker 1:

Coming to you from the Tar Heel State. This is the Carolina Commercial Real Estate Connection, bringing you industry insights and hot takes from Carolina real estate experts, helping you begin, grow and scale your commercial real estate portfolio. And now your hosts Tony Johnson and Cameron Pearson.

Tony Johnson:

Welcome to another episode of Carolina Commercial Real Estate Connection. Today we have Justin Breen with us. Justin is with Brepic Network. He's also an author of multiple books. Justin, thank you so much for joining us today.

Justin Breen:

What a what. This will be. So much fun and a Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, happy New Year, all of the above.

Tony Johnson:

Awesome. Can we start out, justin, off the top and just can you tell us what, what the books are that?

Justin Breen:

you've written and what inspired you to write them. Um, thanks, it's wonderful to be here. I guess what my brain does is it recognizes patterns and then, once you know the pattern, doing something about it. Like knowing a pattern is great, but if you don't do anything with it or create your own pattern, it's kind of pointless. So seeing the pattern and then doing something about it.

Justin Breen:

So first book, epic Business very grateful. Chris Voss, who wrote Never Split the Difference, did the forward. Very grateful for that. That book is about how the first company I helped create became a global company. I have zero business background, I don't even think about that stuff. So that book is about how the first company, which is a PR firm, became a global company with zero business background and did that in two years. So that's what that's about. And then the second book very grateful. Dr Peter Diamandis wrote the forward. He doesn't usually do that, but very grateful he did that. All I do is spend time with my family and talk to the world's top visionaries now so not humans, not business owners, just visionaries and talk to one to two of them every single week that have let entrepreneur life, destroy their family life or prevented them from having a family. So Epic Life is how to build collaborative global companies while putting your loved ones first.

Tony Johnson:

So you know awesome and I appreciate that. So a couple of things quickly. Epic Business and Epic Life are also both on Audible. If you're not interested in doing a lot of just reading, it's on Audible. Both great books. I've listened to both of them. I don't do a lot of sitting and reading, but love listening to books and a lot of what you do is talk to quick start entrepreneurs right, and you've actually formed a group of quick start entrepreneurs, a mastermind and put that together and a lot. It's very interesting. A lot of what you do is virtual. Even your business partner you met virtually. I think. If I remember correctly and I don't know if that's changed since I think the last time I read it or heard about it, I think you'd only met him two times in person or something like that.

Justin Breen:

Only twice Right twice in person.

Tony Johnson:

So just that should give you kind of a feel how Justin works. You know he's very good and likes to meet people virtually, is fine and can read people very quickly and loves understanding people's attributes and does that through the Colby method. Could you go a little in depth for people that don't know what that is?

Justin Breen:

Sure, I'm happy to do that and thank you for that. Um, really good explanation, uh, and context. Um. So I see the world in numbers and keywords. Um, my wife, who's a pediatrician and coo of, if you want to call it, a mastermind? Um, she's the coo, so she sees the world in harmony and joy and kindness and achievement. And then I see the world in numbers and keywords. So it's an interesting match.

Justin Breen:

But the best way that I've seen to identify a visionary in my day consists of only two things One, spending time with my family, or two, connecting visionaries to serve humanity. So, not business owners, not humans, just visionaries. So the best way I've found to identify a visionary is their Colby score, k-o-l-b-e colbycom A index. It takes 20 minutes. It's not about your personality. It measures how your brain takes action. It's four numbers.

Justin Breen:

For me, the most important number by far is someone's quick start. The highest is a 10. The lowest is a one. Almost everyone I talk to is at least an eight quick start In the human world. That's very rare. In my world the average quick start I talk to is a nine. A 10 quick start in human world is one out of 200 humans. In my world it's like one out of eight or nine. And then in Brepik Network there are only three members under a seven quick start only three.

Justin Breen:

So it's visionaries connecting to visionaries, and then the visionary talks about what they're doing and then the other visionaries immediately either become investors or collaborators or they introduce them to other visionaries who can help them with it. So it eliminates business owner mindset or employee mindset and it attracts people that do something immediately, have the capital to do it or know someone who has the capital. So it's the same formula. The formula for creating a successful global company is simple. You see a problem, create a solution problem, solve a successful global company. So with Repic Network, I was annoyed by if you want to call them masterminds or platforms that let business owners or others in because they're not visionaries, and so I just created a mastermind platform that connects visionaries to serve humanity. So that's all it is, and we're about to be named one of top five masterminds on planet and it's scaling very quickly and it's it's like you said, basically all quick starts because they don't want to waste time with people that slow them down.

Tony Johnson:

Yeah, and you know this day and age there's there's gotten to be quite a few mastermind groups and you know those people that you know attract to those masterminds are really looking for people that are you get just business owners, that are basically just self-employed people, right. And they don't have that same mentality.

Justin Breen:

Never will.

Tony Johnson:

And other groups where it's people that are W-2 employees looking to you know potentially at some point in life go out on their own, and so you get a lot of mastermind groups where you're in them and you're feeling almost held back by half of them.

Justin Breen:

Well, you're not Well one. I know that you've shared that with me, so thank you. But that's why, that's why I created this, because I don't.

Tony Johnson:

So to me, yeah, it makes a lot of sense. It's something different.

Justin Breen:

So, yeah, and it's all collaborative, like I invest well over a hundred K a year to be in rooms and I I love being in them and they're all the one I helped create. Again, my partner's in San Francisco. I'm in Chicago. My wife is the COO that. She became the COO after Epic Life was written, which is very interesting because that book is how to build collaborative global companies while putting your loved ones first. Now my most important loved one is part of, and the key part really of the global company. She's the. You know, the reason why it's really taking off is because of my wife, sarah, because she harmony, joy, relationship and I see world in numbers. And then my partner, who's in San Francisco. He does eight and nine figure deals all day and he's an empath which is really rare for people. I mean, that's really rare for people like us, really rare. So it's like this perfect combination of numbers, feelings, quick start, emotion and execution, activation. Basically. Well, everyone in our room is an activator. They're not an overthinker, they're execution.

Tony Johnson:

Do it. So one other thing, Justin, I would love you to touch on is when we go through a visionary, their lives typically have a lot of commonalities. Yes, Could you kind of go through what are some commonalities for somebody that's thinking maybe I'm a visionary I haven't taken this, Colby but maybe I'm a visionary.

Justin Breen:

What are some commonalities that you see in those people's lives? So everything's a pattern, right. So these are the, and I always do a lot of thinking about this, but I've really done like I've doubled down on this thinking lately, because during holiday season it's a really good time to reflect and think about things and then why things are working and then things that you can improve on. So I've done a lot of thinking about this exact question every day, but especially more lately. And so these are the four things that separate a visionary from a human or business owner. There are only four things. And a visionary from a human or business owner. There are only four things, and this does not apply to silver spoons, that's a different discussion, but most visionaries are not silver spoons. Okay, so these are the four things. One bankruptcy or potential bankruptcy. Two, depression. Three highest level of anxiety that you can imagine. Four likely and or possible traumatic experiences as a child or young adult. So for humans, business owners, consultants, the ones that you're talking about, where they're basically solopreneurs and then they're, you know, whatever they think, they want to be a visionary. So for those people, those four things are excuses. They hold you back. For a visionary, that's the fuel. That's the motivator. That's the motivator. So, since COVID, I think, I've talked to four or five people less than three of those four things. Talk to four or five people, less than three of those four things. When I first started First Company in 2017, I was still talking to small business owners or consultants or employees, and most of the time, there were one or two of those four things, maybe zero of them. Now it's basically all threes and fours. It's all threes and fours. Okay, so that's the the foundation. And then the double down on that thinking, the reflection aspect is one within Bradford network, everyone's at least three of those four. Um, the really quote unquote successful ones are are almost always all four. Um. Cause an entrepreneur is the most damaged person with the best coping skills, the most of those four things, but then they have the highest IQ EQ. They can do things that a human can't. They don't have the IQ or EQ to do it. They don't Because if they did, they would. But the thinking about that aspect is like to become someone like this one, you have to have the IQ or EQ to be able to do that. Most people don't have that. That's just how it is, because if you had that, you could do something like this. But I think it takes this a lifetime of being broken or being challenged, or not understood by human society and getting essentially rejected, essentially rejected to create someone like this. That's, I think, that's what it. I just don't think you can become someone like this. Again, the silver spoon is different, that's different. But but to become someone like this, I think you need to go through those, at least three of those four things.

Justin Breen:

And I was talking to about a year ago. I was talking to one of Africa's top entrepreneurs, akintoya Akindele, dr Akintoya Akindele, and he's lost millions, if not billions, made millions, if not billions. I was talking to him about the four things. He challenged it. He said you have to go through all four. You have to. You have to because that's the only way to transform from pride to purpose. The only way to shed that last bit of pride or ego is to go through all four of those. I'm three of the four. I haven't had to deal with bankruptcy or potential bankruptcy, so I respectfully disagree with him because I'm full purpose. I'm broken enough where the pride is pretty much gone. But that's what I think it is. I just think it's that incredible amount of damage.

Tony Johnson:

Yeah, and one thing that I's that short-term memory loss which allows you to move, and that failure and you're not holding on to that. It's just constantly battling and trying to fight yourself out of a hole. Your whole life it feels like no matter where you achieve, you're still not anywhere where you feel like you can be, and you're continually setting that bar higher, continually fighting and fighting, and fighting, and there's really there's no reward at the end. There's no end of the tunnel.

Tony Johnson:

It's constantly getting through the tunnel to get to the light, but the light constantly is moving farther away and you're constantly trying to get there, thank you.

Justin Breen:

So all this because entrepreneurs are most damaged people with best coping skills. All this stuff, the revenue, whatever that it's fine. All it is is a shield for the damage, that's all it is. So when someone leads with like, oh, I made this list or just had a big exit, uh, I don't know, got a new car or a new house, if it's three things like that in a row, then I will always ask uh, how's your family? Um, that's, I'll just listen because it doesn't really matter what they say, it matters the sequence and what it actually is. It can be any of those things, but it's a transactional thing. So I'll ask how the family is and then, almost 100% of the time, it's oh, going through a divorce, I never see my family, or I torched my family, or I never had one. I mean, that's what it cause. All this stuff's a shield, okay.

Justin Breen:

So I would say the greatest value of Brepic network is everyone is like us in that and they all understand each other, and it's a place where we can be vulnerable there Cause, and there's no one holding it.

Justin Breen:

It it's a, it's a, it's a. A fast pass, it's a shortcut to finding the light or at least understanding the others, that others are trying to find the light too. So, um, and that was that was what, like your futuristic one in strength finders Gallup, clifton, strength finders I'm I'm pretty low in that, but when I saw what I saw Bradford network, before it even existed and I just saw like this is what people like us want, because they don't want to be held back, but they also are so damaged they need to be around other people who understand that and appreciate that and then can help them through that and help them collaborate on things or become investors with them on things, because without that understanding then I don't think there's a real relationship. So that's my point is like everyone understands each other at the very highest level and no one's holding each other, no one's holding anyone back. In fact, it's the opposite. They're thrusting them into the future faster than they ever thought possible, because it's quick starts and then they can relate to each other immediately, immediately.

Tony Johnson:

I have a question based on what you find is you're looking for as somebody that's an entrepreneur looking and always fighting and working for business, when you have that lack of family and the lack of how to do family.

Tony Johnson:

You know, and am I doing family properly? Am I allocating the right amount of time? Looking to these networks? What I always say say look for this for guidance and how to do better with family. Learn more with family. These are the places where you can talk to other people that are like you to understand how to be a better family person right.

Justin Breen:

So our so what we have is member spotlights, which, um, I again I really thought about this at like, cause you do thinking now, I think, where it's really special and the word special is overused, but not in this case. It's there's no ego. There's no ego in the room and it's very egalitarian. There's no, there's no hierarchy. It's everyone's coaching each other because they're all can relate to your earlier question they understand what it's like to be someone like us. A business owner will never understand this. They'll be in the grind. They'll be in the grind, but they're grinding for something that is not visionary. It's their world thinking. It's not the world. It's a different type of grind. It's a different type of grind.
